Plain-English glossary

Fragrance-free label glossary

Use this glossary to compare scent language before building a low-scent hair or skin routine. It is a shopping aid, not a medical interpretation of labels.

Educational and cosmetic only. Noryn Guide is educational only and focused on cosmetic and wellness routines. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, telehealth, prescribing, or treatment. Talk to a licensed clinician for medical concerns.

Fragrance-free

Usually signals that fragrance was not added for scent. Still read the full product page and packaging.

Unscented

May mean the product is designed not to smell noticeable. It is not the same promise as fragrance-free.

Naturally scented

A scent-positioning phrase. Compare it like any other scent claim instead of assuming it is quieter.

Essential oil scent

A scented format that may be pleasant but still counts as a scented step in a low-scent routine.

Low-scent routine

A personal shopping rule: one lightly scented step at most, or fragrance-free products across the shelf.

How to use it

Pick a scent rule before shopping, then compare product role, texture, and daily fit.

Decide whether the shelf should be fragrance-free or simply low-scent.Keep scent preference separate from product role.Compare the whole routine, not just one label.Ask a clinician about health concerns or reactions that worry you.
